ENGLISH I – SoFL 1115
Course Description
This course, the first in a two-course sequence, is designed for students studying in Turkish medium departments who are exempt from compulsory English preparatory class. The course employs an integrated syllabus that addresses both process and product. It aims to help students acquire and practice General English in A1 level. It focuses on daily communication through the use of basic vocabulary and grammatical structures. Students are introduced to reading simple texts and listening to simple conversations in English and provided with oral communication which explores daily topics. In addition, it aims to focus on writing short simple texts producing grammatically accurate sentences.
Objectives
Students who regularly attend this course will have practiced and improved the following English language skills: reading and understanding short simple texts; writing short simple texts using basic structures based on notes; listening for specific reasons and gist; and communicating on daily topics both in written and oral form. Upon completion of the course, students will be better able to comprehend simple texts in English, improve their comprehension and communication in English.
